A first-half double from Nathan Arnold was enough to dump Woking out of the Trophy and inflict their fourth straight defeat.

Garry Hill made six changes to the team that lost 3-1 in mid-week to Grimsby. Matt Butcher, an 18-year-old midfielder on loan from Bournemouth, made his debut.

A promising start by Woking was quickly cancelled out by Arnold in the 10th minute as he swept home in what was Grimsby’s first attack.

Giuseppe Sole tried his luck from long distance but couldn’t get back level before Arnold extended the Mariners lead, slotting past Jake Cole in the 35th minute.

The Cards, again, started the second-half brightly but lacked a cutting edge against a strong Grimsby backline.

Cameron Norman’s low cross only needed a touch to get Woking back in it before John Goddard was crowded out in the penalty area.

In the end, it was a comfortable win for Grimsby, who rarely looked troubled throughout. For Woking, it was another painful defeat that all but ends the Cards hopes for an exciting end to the season.
