Watch the moment when linesman Adam Penwell takes one to the face in the opening minute of Woking vs Barrow AFC.

A Vanarama National League fixture may not see a more bizarre opening minute this season.

In the first 60 seconds of Woking’s fixture with Barrow AFC, Cards winger Bruno Andrade had his cross deflected into the face of linesman Adam Penwell, who was yards away. The official was completely knocked over and the game was brought to an immediate stop. Woking physio Steve Snelling treated the injured official at the side of the pitch.

Following a 12 minute delay, Penwell was replaced and Alban Lee, a qualified referee and Woking fan, volunteered to take up the role of fourth official.

Penwell has since tweeted the club thanking them their help:
Adam Penwell ‏@TheAdmyster: ‘@wokingfc thank you to your doctors who were AMAZING in looking after me and taking me to the hospital, vision upto 60% in left eye today ..’
‘@wokingfc … Follow up appointment at eye hospital in a week and fingers crossed will be normal and be back on the green stuff soon 👍’
